New Date for Juventus vs Inter Confirmed Following Coronavirus Postponement

Serie A president Paolo Dal Pino and Gabriele Gravina, the president of the Italian Football Federation, sat down on Monday to discuss the rescheduling of the Serie A calendar, with a decision on when to rearrange the postponed fixtures from matchday 26 ‘approaching.’

The coronavirus has spread across Italy, with the number of cases continuing to rise. As a precautionary measure, it was originally decided that six fixtures taking place on matchday 26 that were in areas affected by the virus would be played behind closed doors. However, five of these six games were later postponed at the last minute.

One of these clashes was the top of the table tussle between Juventus and Inter, but it was confirmed that the fixture would now be played on 13 May. Gianluca Di Marzio is now reporting that Serie A president Dal Pino and president of the Italian Football Federation Gravina held a meeting on Monday to discuss how to move forward with the season.

It is noted that the agreement to reschedule the round of fixtures for matchday 26 is ‘approaching’. They are both working towards finding a ‘definitive solution’ to the current scheduling dilemma as a result of the coronavirus.

The idea currently being discussed involves pushing each gameweek back to the following weekend – meaning Juventus versus Inter will take place on Monday 9 March. However, in order for the season to finish at the normal time, a date would have to be found for another round of fixtures to be played on. Di Marzio state that a new midweek round will be inserted on May 13 ‘in all probability’.

A decision could be made before Wednesday morning.

This is further backed up by La Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that Juventus-Inter will now be played at 20:45 on Monday 9 March. Moreover, they also state that the penultimate round of fixtures will be played between 12-14 May.
