Juventus will travel to the Sardegna Stadium to take on Cagliari in Serie A on Tuesday night.
The Old Lady were able to bounce back from their first loss in the league with a 1-0 win over Empoli in their last time out. Juve will be without several key players including Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala who are recovering from various injuries sustained over the last few weeks.
Here’s how I Bianconeri could line up to take on Cagliari in the mid-week match.
3. Goalkeeper and Defenders
Wojciech Szczesny (GK) – The Polish shot-stopper has been the main man between the sticks for Juventus this season and will look to continue his fine form following the international break. Szczesny kept two clean sheets in his country’s Euro 2020 qualifiers and looked particularly confident in the matches against Austria and Latvia.
Alex Sandro (LB) – Sandro has been an important player for Juve this campaign as his contribution on the left side of the pitch opens up channels for his teammates. Cagliari will have to track the Brazilian as he drives forward and constantly provides good service for the more attacking players to get on the end of.
Giorgio Chiellini (CB) – The captain earned his 101st cap for his country during the international break in a 2-0 win over Finland in Italy’s opening match of Euro 2020 qualifiers. Chiellini is always a rock at the back and his passing ability cannot be overlooked when he splits the lines to start a quick counter-attack for the Old Lady.
Leonardo Bonucci (CB) – The 31-year-old centre-back was rested in Juve’s first match back following the break after playing both games for his country. Bonucci will be looking to come back into the squad and command his back four with the normal intensity and quality that he shows every time he is on the pitch.
Joao Cancelo (RB) – Cancelo has been productive for Juventus when healthy this season, scoring a goal and providing six assists in all competitions. The 24-year-old is always willing to make runs down the right flank and cause problems for opposing defences by overloading his side of the pitch.
Blaise Matuidi (LCM) – Matuidi will likely start on the left-side of a midfield three for Juventus in the match. The French midfielder’s production doesn’t particularly show through his numbers but the 31-year-old has been one of the most consistent players for the Old Lady this season and is always seen doing his part in the midfield with top effort.
Miralem Pjanic (CM) – Pjanic will sit in his normal defensive-midfield role in the match against Cagliari on Tuesday night. The Bosnian midfielder is one of the best at his position as he protects his back four while simultaneously pulling the strings for Juventus in a deep-lying midfield spot.
Rodrigo Bentancur (RCM) – On the right side of Pjanic in the midfield will probably be 21-year-old Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan midfielder is never afraid to put in a challenge and will be looking to make his presence felt against a strong Cagliari defence.
Mario Mandzukic (LW) -Mandzukic got a much needed rest during the international break, and with Ronaldo out of the squad, the big striker will be expected to grab a goal for Juve and improve on his nine strikes this campaign.
Moise Kean (CF) – The 19-year-old has come out of his shell in recent weeks after scoring in both Euro 2020 qualifying matches for Italy as well as bagging the winner in Juve’s last match against Empoli. With injuries throughout the squad, Kean could be set to receive just his second senior start under Massimiliano Allegri.
Federico Bernardeschi (RW) – Bernardeschi has featured in every match for I Bianconeri since the turn of the year. The 25-year-old will look to combine with Mandzukic in the final third and add to his three goals and five assists this season.
