It was an incredible thing to do moments before being presented an award, with speculation rife that he was looking to steal the attention away from the Ballon d’Or awards which was going on at exactly the same time in Paris.
Over at that ceremony, the Juve man finished behind Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and winner Lionel Messi. The Argentine picked up a record sixth trophy, as he went one past Ronaldo’s tally of five.

Ronaldo was also interviewed on stage as he expressed his happiness over picking up the two gongs. He said, via The Sun: “I’m happy, the Italian championship is very difficult. I would like to thank my Juventus team-mates and all the colleagues who voted for me. This year I will try to repeat it.”
Ronaldo’s super-agent Jorge Mendes was also interviewed, and was quick to speak out on his client’s rivalry with Messi and standing among all footballers, stating: “Cristiano is the best player in history, and you know it.”
