Juventus vs Roma Preview: How to Watch On TV, Live Stream, Kick Off Time & Team News

Juventus will look to take another step towards their first trophy under Maurizio Sarri when they welcome Roma to the Allianz Stadium on Wednesday evening in the quarter final of the Coppa Italia.

The sides meet less than two weeks after their league encounter in Italy’s capital, which saw Juventus hold on for victory as two goals in the opening ten minutes proved enough despite Diego Perotti’s second half penalty.

Inter’s second draw in three games saw Juve extend their lead at the top of Serie A to four points with their fourth consecutive victory of the year

Roma bounced back from a rocky start to the year with wins against Parma and Genoa, but I Giallorossi will be hoping to banish any lingering memories of last year’s Coppa Italia quarter final.

It will be almost a year to the day on Wednesday since Roma were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition at the same stage by Fiorentina by a staggering scoreline of 7-1.

Team News

The last time these sides met, two of their most exciting prospects suffered season-ending knee injuries within minutes of each other.

The sight of Juve’s Merih Demiral and Roma’s Nicolò Zaniolo leaving the field in agony was horrific to witness and the game will be worse off with their absences.

Juventus are also without long-term absentees Giorgio Chiellini and Sami Khedira but the Italy international is expected to return to action as soon as early March, with the German’s recovery operating on a similar timeline.

Roma’s Edin Džeko has one more match to serve as part of the suspension he picked up from the red card in last year’s quarter final. I Giallorossi are also without the injured Davide Zappacosta and Henrikh Mkhitaryan which could see Perotti return on the left wing.

Predicted Lineups

Juventus: Buffon; Danilo, De Ligt, Rugani, Sandro; Rabiot, Pjanic, Bentancur; Bernardeschi;
Dybala, Ronaldo.
Roma: López; Florenzi, Mancini, Smalling, Kolarov; Cristante, Diawara; Ünder, Pellegrini, Perotti; Kalinić.

Head to Head Record

These clubs, two of the Seven Sisters of Italian football, have played out 185 matches over the course of their long and storied histories with Juventus holding the superior record of 87 wins to Roma’s 46.

The Italian champions go into the match with an even more dominant home record against the side from the capital, with 60 wins compared to the measly 11 Roma have accumulated away from home.

This Coppa Italia match sees the competition’s two most successful sides battle it out for a place in the semi finals, with 22 titles shared between the clubs – 13 for Juventus, nine for Roma – and 35 final appearances – 18 for Juventus, 17 for Roma.

Recent Form

Juventus come into the match on a run of four consecutive victories across all competitions following a tricky December. Last month saw I Bianconeri fail to win half of their matches, including their only two losses of the season, both to Roma’s city rivals Lazio.

After ending 2019 seven games unbeaten, Roma started 2020 with back-to-back losses against the Turin clubs of Serie A. Wins against Parma and Genoa have gone some way to restoring the good will Paulo Fonseca and his side had built up but the next two matches could shape how their season unfolds.

Beating Juventus in the cup would be a great achievement but the fixture every fan circles at the start of the season rears its head on the weekend: the derby against Lazio.

Here’s how the two teams have performed in their last five games.

Juventus Roma
Juventus 2-1 Parma (19/1) Genoa 1-3 Roma (19/1)
Juventus 4-0 Udinese (15/1) Parma 0-2 Roma (16/1)
Roma 1-2 Juventus (12/1) Roma 1-2 Juventus (12/1)
Juventus 4-0 Cagliari (6/1) Roma 0-2 Torino (5/1)
Juventus 1-3 Lazio (22/12) Fiorentina 1-4 Roma (20/12)

Both sides come into the cup match with an eye on their weekend fixtures – as previously mentioned above, Roma have the derby to contend with while Juventus travel to Napoli – so Wednesday could be a clash between the second strings of each side.

Genoa CFC v AS Roma - Serie A

However, with Sarri’s side proving too much for Roma less than a fortnight ago and with a stronger squad at his disposal, Juventus are favourites to maintain their astonishing run of 15 home games unbeaten under their new manager and progress to the semi-finals.

Prediction: Juventus 3-1 Roma
